Changing The Way I Bet

It has been a few days since my last update. I have decided to stop "betting" and have instead taking up trading! I realise this was a quick change, and I may not have given the betting front much of a chance. The reason I did this was I quickly found out that I could not balance work, home life and following tipsters. As a result, I was missing out on some tips, and it seemed like those I did miss went on to do quite well. At the time, I decided to stop, I was showing a loss of -50 points!

Since then I have been trawling the web, reading blogs and have been trying out trading on Betfair, especially the pre-race horse racing markets. So far it has been very hard work, and I have been using minimal stakes of £2 and £5. I have been trying to get 1 tick profits. Since 26/11/09 I have traded 100 markets, with 71 markets showing a profit, albeit very small amounts. In total I have placed trades to a total of £2946.77. I was very surprised at how quickly this figure built up with £2 stakes. The pleasing thing for me was I have managed to make a profit of £11.76. I think this is an ROI of +0.39%. I have been very cautious and my main aim now is to keep learning which is easier said than done, and concentrating on the figures and flashing lights is quite hard work!

If anyone has any advice for a very very new betfair trader, then please do leave a comment, it will be much appreciated.

Work & Betting Don't Mix

It has been hard work today on the betting front. I took a day off on Monday, so today was my first day which included work and betting. I quickly realised that the two do not sit very well together. I spent a while making a list of the bets I will be making the night before. However, some of the free tipsters and blogs do not put the bets on until mid morning, or very close to race time. This meant that I was constantly checking the sites on my mobile phone to see if there were any updates. Once I had all my bets, I ran around at lunchtime getting a bite to eat, then sitting in a corner putting my bets on my Ladbrokes Mobile application. It felt painstakingly slow! It felt slow when changing markets, loading the prices and eventually accepting the bet! I almost felt like I was having an affair with a mysterious lover with all the secrecy! I thought about calling Ladbrokes and putting the bets on over the telephone, but I don't think they would be taking 50p bets over the phone! I'm sure the operator would probably end up in fits of laughter!

I looked through my account earlier, and I could not believe the number of bets I have placed in the past 4 days. There have been 138 bets, 44 winners, and a total loss of £13.50. Once I settle down, and whittle down the good tipster from the bad, this figure should be much lower. I just hope the bank stays safe enough for me to find out.

First Steps

Well, today was my first real full day of betting. I can honestly say it felt like I was working! I spent nearly the whole morning scouring websites to get some free tips, then going through them to pick and choose the bets which I would be placing money on. In between all this, I had to feed my little boy, clean him and clothe him and then put on a Iron Giant dvd to keep him entertained! I haven't yet figured out how I will do this, when I am at work on Monday morning. I have a short list of a few sources where I can get free tips, and I may have to bookmark them on my phone. I have also just downloaded a mobile betting application, so I can place bets on the move. My partner has been taking mick about my new found obsession, and is wondering how long it will last before I go back to celebrity gossip!

I placed 26 bets today, 4 bets which are yet to be settled. 6 of these bets were winners at odds of 4.5, 2.25, 1.5, 4.0, 1.2 and 1.25. I had another small loss of -4.66 points. It has not been the best of starts, but I'm hoping that once I know my way around the do's and dont's of betting, and getting a feel for a good tipster or good advice will help me turn this around. If anyone knows a good site for free profitable tips, please do let me know, it will be much appreciated.

Intro Post

I have been spending time reading a few blogs on the internet, and I have found them to be fascinating and in a way, very inspiring. my favorite topic is currently Betting, whether on horses, football, or any other sport. I enjoy the way people express their frustrations, hopes, and highs, and I love it when you can see that they are finally making a profit.

Yesterday, I decided to put £103.07 into a Ladbrokes account. This money has been sitting around in an old cash account and I thought I would put it to some use, and see if I can make some profit. I realise that it is a very small betting bank, and is hardly going to be life changing.

I have been trawling the betting related internet sites and there seems to be lots of advice, tips and mumblings on money management, staking, betting banks, returns, profit and loss, record keeping etc. Taking this on board, I have split my bank into 200 points and will be staking a massive 50 Pence on each selections! It is also through various forms, and free advice that I will be deciding what to back, and what to put my money on!

I did put some bets on yesterday, and I ended the day with a loss of -12.36 Points.
